FOR MIXING, OR MIXING AND MASTERING: I either need the original session from your software or 'Stems'. As far as original sessions, I have Protools, Logic Pro X, Reaper, and Garage Band. If your music is in one of these pieces of software, you can simply make a ZIP of all the session files and audio and send that to me. If not, I'll need you to make 'stems' and send them to me. Stems are a copy of each track saved as a WAV/AIFF individually. Meaning.. there will be a separate file for each vocal track, each instrument track, etc. Each file must start at the same point in the song. Not where the content on the track starts, but at the starting point in the session. Usually this is 0:00. They all need to start and end at the same point. This is important! This might mean that there is silence at the beginning and end of some of the tracks - that is totally ok. I need it done this way so I can line them all up correctly in my software. You can then make a zip of all these files and send that to me.
FOR MASTERING ONLY: All files submitted for mastering should be done so in an uncompressed format such as WAV, AIFF, FLAC, etc, though if all you have available is something like MP3, that will work. The sample rate should be 44.1k or higher, the bit depth should be whatever the original session was recorded at (probably 16 or 24 bit), and they should be stereo files. All files submitted for mastering should NOT be peak-limited (i.e.: Waves L1/L3/L16, Slate FG-X, FabFilter Pro-L, Maxim, Elephant, etc) in any way. Check your master meter, it shouldn't be in the red or hitting the top at all. Their loudest point should be around -6db on your meters. Compression/saturation is OK, but use some care when mixing down, your meters shouldn't be pinned and your dynamics shouldn't be limited. When in doubt, just take everything off your master fader/channel and turn it down a bunch.
GETTING YOUR DATA TO ME: There are a number of ways to get your files to me. You can use a site like wetransfer.com or mediafire.com to send links to me. I also have an FTP server that you can upload to - just ask me about that if you want to use it.
OTHER STUFF: In order to make the 'proofing'; process simple, I will provide you a link to a page that will contain all versions of the work that I've done for you to download. Please don't give anyone this link. It is for you and your band/manager/what-have-you only!
